Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Announce They Are Engaged

Are you ready for it?  On Tuesday, Grammy Award-winning artist Taylor Swift broke the Internet again—this time with news that she’s engaged to Travis Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, after two years of dating. The engagement brings new meaning to one of Swift’s most famous lyrics about romance, “you belong with me.” “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” Swift wrote in an Aug. 26 Instagram post, along with an excerpt of her song “So High School.” She posted photos of Kelce on one knee in front of the pop star in a lush garden, the two in a tight embrace, and a close-up of the ring—an “Old Mine brilliant cut” designed with Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry, according to People. On Aug. 12, she announced her 12th studio album will be The Life of a Showgirl in an appearance last week on the podcast “New Heights,” hosted by her now fiancé and his brother, retired Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce. The Life of a Showgirl, out on Oct. 3, follows 2024’s The Tortured Poets Department and will have 12 tracks covering her experiences traveling for the historic Eras tour. “I wanted to glamorize all the different aspects of how the tour felt,” Swift said on New Heights. “The reason I wanted to have an offstage moment as the main album cover is because the album isn’t really about what happened to me onstage, but what I was going through offstage.” In TIME’s profile of Swift for the 2023 Person of the Year issue, Swift recounted how she was intrigued when Kelce said on his podcast that he wanted to meet her, after trying and failing to give her a bracelet that he made for her at a 2023 concert: “This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell,” she told TIME. “We started hanging out right after that. So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other. By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple. I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.” She’s attracted a new audience to the games. As she told TIME: “When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there and we don’t care,” she says. “The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you’re seeing someone. And we’re just proud of each other.”
