صعد سعر النحاس في لندن، مقتفياً أثر مكاسب أسواق الأسهم في الولايات المتحدة بعد أن أبطلت المحكمة العليا الأمريكية الرسوم الجمركية المتبادلة الواسعة التي فرضها الرئيس دونالد ترامب، والتي أثقلت كاهل آفاق التجارة العالمية. أسعار النحاس وارتفعت أسعار النحاس بما يصل إلى 1.3% في بورصة لندن للمعادن قبل أن تقلّص مكاسبها بعدما قالت المحكمة إن الإدارة تجاوزت صلاحياتها عند فرض الرسوم الجمركية على الشركاء التجاريين. وتُعدّ تلك الرسوم منفصلة عن التعريفات القطاعية التي فرضها ترمب على منتجات الألومنيوم والصلب والنحاس بدواعٍ تتعلق بالأمن القومي. وكان قد قال البيت الأبيض إنه سيحل محل الرسوم سريعاً بأدوات قانونية أخرى، رغم أن الخيارات البديلة تميل إلى أن تكون إما أكثر تعقيداً أو أكثر محدودية من الصلاحيات التي استند إليها ترمب بموجب قانون الصلاحيات الاقتصادية الطارئة الدولية. وارتفع سعر النحاس 1.2% ليغلق عند 12964 دولاراً للطن المتري في بورصة لندن للمعادن، إذ صعدت جميع عقود المعادن الرئيسية الخمسة في البورصة.
